About the Township of North Stormont
The Township of North Stormont is a vibrant rural community located in Eastern Ontario, rich in history and traditions that reflect the pioneering spirit of our region. We take pride in our openness, strong work ethic, and commitment to growth and success.
Home to approximately 6,800 residents, North Stormont was formally established in 1998 through municipal restructuring. Our township is part of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG Counties). We are proud to offer a welcoming environment for families, businesses, and visitors alike.
Local government
North Stormont operates as a single-tier municipality governed by a five-member council, which includes the mayor, deputy mayor and three councillors. Council meetings are held regularly at the township office in Berwick.
What we do
The Township of North Stormont provides a wide range of services to support residents and businesses:
- Public Works & Infrastructure
Responsible for maintaining municipal roads, bridges, and drainage systems, as well as winter snow removal and general infrastructure upkeep. - Planning & Building Services
We manage land use planning, zoning, and building permits to ensure safe and sustainable development within the township. - Fire & Emergency Services
North Stormont Fire Services operates volunteer fire stations across the township, providing fire protection, prevention programs, and emergency response. - Recreation & Community Programs
We offer recreational facilities, parks, and community programs that promote active living and engagement for all ages. - Waste Management
The township oversees garbage and recycling collection, as well as landfill operations, to maintain a clean and healthy environment. - By-law Enforcement
Our team enforces municipal by-laws related to property standards, animal control, and other local regulations.
