Community partnerships and volunteer leadership deliver a lasting investment in recreation along the Nation River
CRYSLER, ON – Residents and visitors can now enjoy improved access to the Nation River thanks to the installation of a brand-new dock at the Crysler Boat Launch, located at the end of 2nd Street, adjacent to the Crysler Community Centre and Park (16 Third Street, Crysler).
The approximately $50,000 community project was made possible through an outstanding partnership between dedicated volunteers, local businesses, funding partners, and the Township of North Stormont.
When it became apparent that the previous dock had reached the end of its service life, the volunteer committee at the Crysler Community Centre took the lead in bringing the replacement project to life. Through their leadership, fundraising efforts, and commitment to the community, residents will continue to enjoy safe and accessible access to one of North Stormont's popular waterfront destinations.
"This project is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when volunteers, community organizations, businesses, funding partners, and the Township work together toward a common goal," said Mayor François Landry. "The Crysler Community Centre volunteer committee demonstrated tremendous leadership throughout this project, and Council sincerely thanks everyone who contributed their time, expertise, and financial support. The new dock will serve residents and visitors for many years to come."
A significant milestone was achieved when the Crysler Community Centre successfully secured a financial contribution from Desjardins Ontario Credit Union, providing the foundation needed to move the project forward. “We believe that money is more than a means—it’s a catalyst. A catalyst that transforms ideas into plans and plans into reality.Supporting initiatives that promote wellbeing and bring people together outdoors, that’s investing in what matters,” adds Francine Côté, president of the Desjardins Ontario Credit Union Board of Directors.
The committee also organized local fundraising efforts, raising more than $14,000 to help fund aggregates, concrete work, construction of the access ramp, and the remaining balance of the dock purchase.
The new custom-built dock was manufactured and installed by Dock Master of Carleton Place, Ontario. Designed as a replica of the existing accessible kayak and canoe dock, it provides continued safe and accessible recreational access for paddlers, anglers, and boaters using the Nation River.
The Township of North Stormont's Roads Department also played an important role by providing excavation services, hauling stone, constructing the riverbank berm, and transporting aggregates. The Township's in-kind contribution to the project is valued at more than $2,500.
Additional support came from Lapp Construction, which generously donated $2,000 in labour toward construction of the concrete pad and anchoring the dock to the access ramp. South Nation Conservation also provided technical expertise and support throughout the project.
Together, these contributions transformed a community vision into a valuable recreational asset that will benefit residents and visitors alike.
