BERWICK, Ontario - Council and staff at the Township of North Stormont officially cut the ribbon on the new township hall at a ceremony May 1.
Mayor Francois Landry and members of council, as well as staff, gathered at the new township hall, located at 57 Cockburn St. in Berwick. The new township hall boasts expanded facilities, a more modern look and upgraded technology.
"Originally built in 1964, with an expansion in 1989 to meet the needs of a growing student population, this building served as North Stormont Public School for generations. For decades, it was a hub for learning, community events, and connection. Though the school closed its doors in 2022, it never lost its place in the hearts of our residents," said Mayor Landry. "In 2023, Township council acquired the premises with a clear vision: to revitalize this cherished site into a multi-use public asset. Today, that vision becomes reality. This building now houses our municipal offices and will serve as the new home for Happy Face Nursery School Child Care -ensuring that this space remains a place where children can learn, play, and grow."
Happy Face Day Care joined with members of council for the ribbon-cutting, presenting the township with a painting produced by the children. The children also helped Mayor Landry cut the ribbon.
Township staff moved into the new facility in March, 2025. The former home of the township, located at 15 Union St. in Berwick, will be deemed surplus and listed for sale.
