A statement from Mayor Francois Landry concerning the terrible tragedy in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

As Mayor of North Stormont, I want to speak directly to our residents about the heartbreaking events that unfolded in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. The news of this senseless act of violence has resonated deeply across the country, and here in North Stormont, our thoughts are firmly with the families and community members who are grieving unimaginable loss.

Tumbler Ridge is a small, close‑knit community—much like our own. It is a place where neighbours know one another, where people look out for one another, and where community is woven into daily life. That is why this tragedy feels especially personal. When a community built on trust and connection is shaken by violence, it reminds all of us how precious and fragile that sense of security truly is.

In North Stormont, we stand in solidarity with the people of Tumbler Ridge. We hold them in our hearts, and we extend to them our compassion, our hope, and our commitment to keep their community in our thoughts during this difficult time.

This moment also calls on us to reaffirm our values. Acts of indiscriminate violence have no place in our society. They are the opposite of what we believe in as neighbours and as Canadians. Let us respond not with fear or anger, but with renewed dedication to kindness, acceptance, and love—ideals that strengthen our community every day.

On behalf of North Stormont, I extend my deepest condolences. May peace and healing find their way to Tumbler Ridge, and may we continue striving to build a world where compassion leads the way.
