BERWICK, Ontario - On Oct. 24, local MPP Nolan Quinn met with the team at DC Vollrath Park to hear more about the $200,000 capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used for the construction of an outdoor multi-purpose sports deck court.

This project will give our community a safe, free place to be active and have fun together. It’s designed for everyone—kids, adults, and seniors. Families who can’t afford team sports will have a place to play, and people who feel isolated will have a spot to connect. The new courts will help people stay healthy, enjoy nature, and spend time with friends and neighbours.

“Whether it’s playing in a league or with friends, we know that sports brings SDSG together,” said Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry. “With the support from our government, this new sport court and rink will ensure that everyone in SDSG can stay active and connected to the community all year round.”

The Township of North Stormont is building a new multi-use sports court and outdoor hockey rink at DC Vollrath Memorial Park in Finch. The project includes an 80’ x 120’ cement pad with special tiles for basketball, pickleball, and ball hockey, plus safety boards around the edge. In winter, the court will be flooded for ice hockey. The new space will be open year-round for all ages and abilities.

“We’re grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting this project. Thanks to their grant, we can offer a new space for sports and recreation that brings our community together and helps everyone stay active,” said François Landry, Mayor of the Township of North Stormont.

The Township of North Stormont is dedicated to serving its rural community by providing quality parks, recreation, and municipal services. With a history rooted in agriculture and small-town values, the township works to support families, promote healthy living, and build a welcoming environment for all residents.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
