2026 Municipal Election - Joint SDG Compliance Audit Committee

The Joint Compliance Audit Committee addresses applications requesting an audit of a candidate or registered third-party advertiser’s election campaign finances for the 2026 municipal election. This authority includes, but is not limited to, the following:

o    Review applications and grant or reject audit requests
o    Where an audit is granted, appoint an auditor, and review the audit report
o    Where indicated, decide whether legal proceeding shall be commenced
o    Determine whether to recover the costs of conducting the compliance audit from the applicant if the auditor’s report indicates there were no apparent contraventions and if there were no reasonable grounds for the application
The Joint SDG Compliance Audit Committee consists of members appointed by each Council. Committee members must have the ability to understand and apply the election campaign finance provisions of the Municipal Elections Act and should be considered impartial with respect to their ability to fulfill their responsibilities.

When is the Committee Engaged?

The Compliance Audit Committee only meets when an eligible application has been received. Applications must be submitted within the timeline established by the Municipal Elections Act following the filing of a candidate's financial statements.
