Clerk's DepartmentThe Clerk's office is responsible for ensuring all policies, procedures and directives of Council are implemented and adhered to. This Department prepares agendas for Council and Committee meetings and generates and maintains the minutes and by-laws. Municipal elections which are conducted every four years are the responsibility of the Clerk's office. Staff in this Department acts as the local registrar for births and deaths that occur in North Stormont, assists the Planning Department and issues lottery licences. The Clerk and Deputy Clerk are Commissioners for Affidavits and have the authority to witness oaths for residents and to certify documents. Municipal obligations under the Emergency Management Act, including training and the maintenance of the Township's Emergency Plan, are the responsibility of this Department, as is the review and preparation of the annual Accessibility Plan under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act. This office also issues burning permits and performs other statutory duties under the Municipal Act, the Line Fences Act, Drainage Act, the Tile Drainage Act, the Planning Act and other provincial statutes.
