Minutes of May 27, 2008

The 10th REGULAR session of 2008 of the Council of the Township of North Stormont was held on the above date, in the Council Chamber, Berwick at 6:30 p.m.

THAT this regular meeting of Council is now open to deal with Township business. CARRIED.

DELEGATIONS:
Peter O'Hare, Fire Protection Adviser, presented a "Summary Report of Survey Findings and Identified Needs" in regards to the Municipal Fire Protection Information Survey conducted by the Fire Marshal's office, and presented Council with a "Certificate of Compliance" confirming North Stormont is in compliance with public education and fire prevention requirements of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997.

James Pollock of Craig, Keen, Despatie, Markell, presented the annual audit of the Township's financial position.

RESOLUTION NO. 238 MAY 2008

WHEREAS Senior's Month is an annual nation-wide celebration;
WHEREAS seniors have contributed and continue to contribute immensely to the life and vibrancy of this community;
WHEREAS seniors continue to serve as leaders, mentors, volunteers and important and active members of this community;
WHEREAS their contributions past and present warrant appreciation and recognition and their stories deserve to be told;
WHEREAS the health and well-being of seniors is in the interest of all and further adds to the health and well-being of seniors is in the interest of all and further adds to the healkth and well-being to the community;
WHEREAS the knowledge and experience seniors pass on to us continues to benefit all;
I, Mayor Dennis Fife, do hereby proclaim June 1-30, 2008 Senior's Month in the Township of North Stormont and encourage all citizens to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our seniors. CARRIED.

Deputy Mayor Bill McGimpsey vacated his seat for discussion and voting on illegal dumping of tires.
RESOLUTION NO. 239 MAY 2008

THAT Council authorize assistance to John Amsing for tires dumped illegally on his property as follows: payment of 50% of tipping fees to a maximum of $500.00. CARRIED.
